Hack Social issues 2022

Social Hackathon to design solutions through innovative social enterprises for refugees who have fled Ukraine and living in Estonia.

Why?

War is devastating and the enormity of the impact is almost too great to comprehend. The loss of life, livelihoods, homes and long-term psychological harm will affect generations. War not only disrupts the development of the social and economic fabric of the nation it also destroys communities and families and has displaced millions of people, and many unaccompanied minors.

We organize a social hackathon to address some of the immediate, medium and long term concerns:

  • How to provide public services like water, electricity, heating, information, etc. to the people that remain in Ukraine;

  • How host countries can cope with the influx of refugees who face a multitude of problems which include lack of food and water, inadequate shelter, lack of transport services for those fleeing, and access to education and healthcare facilities.

  • How to deal with the psychological impact, cultural and social integration of refugees, language barriers, and employment prospects.
