Thinking about a career in the games industry but have no experience? Or haven’t considered it yet, but maybe you should? Whether your background is in art, programming, music, writing, marketing, project management, or another field, your skills can play an important role in the world of games.

At the event “How to Enter the Games Industry with No Experience?”, Andri Allas and Märten Rattasepp will share their journeys and experiences of breaking into the games industry, demonstrating the various paths that can lead to a career in the industry and the opportunities it offers.

Andri Allas has been immersed in the world of video games for nearly his entire life – founder of the Level1.ee community, main organiser of MängudeÖÖ, and Head of Esports at Postimees Group. While he has usually taken on the role of mentor and organiser at Game Jams, earlier this year, he decided to step into the shoes of a participant.

What began as a simple idea soon grew into a completely new game – Grannies on Wheels. In his talk, Andri will share what it’s like to participate in a game jam without prior game development experience and what surprising outcomes such an adventure can lead to.

Märten Rattasepp is a literary critic, cultural researcher, essayist, (pseudo-)academic, (game) writer, and narrative designer. He holds a Master of Arts degree in literary and cultural theory from the University of Tartu, specialising in postmodern/amodern writing, metafiction, and historiography. After stepping away from the academic path, he unexpectedly found himself in the world of game development, contributing as a writer to Disco Elysium.

Over the past nine years, he has also written and designed for titles such as Death and Taxes, Pentiment, and Broken Alliance. He prefers to work on RPGs with strong literary ambition – often at the expense of his sanity. When not writing far too much text, he enjoys long and demanding countryside hikes and moving heavy objects from one place to another (otherwise known as volunteering at festivals and events).

As a pre-event to the Game Jam: Estonian Folklore Edition (October 3–5), it will inspire you with real stories of breaking into the games industry and show how diverse backgrounds can lead to unexpected opportunities.”

The event is open to everyone curious about the games industry – whether you’re a beginner, a creative mind, or simply interested in how games are made.

The event will take place on September 22nd, starting at 18:30, in room A-543 at Tallinn University. The event will be held in English.
